Frequently Asked Questions
How does massage help my horse?
Massage warms the muscles and encourages circulation.
When muscles are worked hard, fluid fills spaces between the
muscles and then hardens. That is how adhesions form
(hard, tense muscle tissue). By warming the muscles
and massaging in the direction that the lymphatic system
flows, we encourage the adhesions to loosen and the fluid to
leave the body via the lymphatic system.
Can an Equine Therapist diagnose medical treatments for
my horse?
No. It is very important that your equine
therapist work with your veterinarian to ensure that your
horse is receiving the proper treatment for it's illness or
injury. Equine Therapy is a complimentary therapy,
holistic in nature. The Therapist you choose should be aware
of contraindications in performing specific treatments and
always suggest a consultation with a veterinarian or farrier
when necessary. An Equine therapist can aid in
relaxing the horse when an acute injury arises, also it is
very beneficial to the horse to have therapy following an
injury for rehabilitation and physiotherapy.
